SHARA COFFEE WASHING STATION

Shara coffee washing station which is on the shores of Lake Kivu, is fortunate to have warm sunlight and mild gusts that help to uniformly dry the coffee beans. The station has 823 farmers who deliver their seasonal coffee crops. It was founded in 2010 by a group of farmers in a cooperative aiming to prepare their produce and sell green coffee. They worked until 2023 when they began doing business with BAHO Coffee Company. Their sole technique at first was fully washed, but after collaborating with BAHO, they also began making honey coffee. Their collaboration with BAHO was a means of improving the quality of their coffee despite their inadequate equipment and skill set. Additionally, due to their limited resources, they were unable to compete in the cherry market. In the vicinity, green bananas, beans, and maize are also farmed.
